The simple design uses L-shaped legs, straight-cut trim, and basic glue-and-staple assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Materials<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Three 3 1\/2&#8243; wide fence pickets for the legs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Four 5 1\/2&#8243; wide fence pickets for the planter sides<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Two additional pickets for the floor, supports, and top lip<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exterior wood glue<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Narrow crown staples 3\/4&#8243;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exterior finish or sealer, optional<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tools<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Miter saw or circular saw<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Narrow crown stapler<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tape measure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Speed square<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drill and drill bit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Steps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cut the 3 1\/2&#8243; wide cedar pickets into eight 20&#8243; pieces for the legs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Join two 20&#8243; pieces at a 90-degree angle to form an &#8220;L.&#8221; Apply glue along the edge and staple the boards together. Repeat to make four legs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Position two legs about 20&#8243; apart for each side of the planter.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cut the 5 1\/2&#8243; wide cedar pickets into 12 20&#8243; pieces. Starting at the top, glue and staple three boards between each pair of legs to build the planter walls. Continue assembling the remaining sides.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rip four cedar strips approximately 1&#8243; wide and cut them to about 18&#8243; long. Glue and staple the strips along the inside bottom edges of the planter to support the floor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Measure the inside opening and cut floor boards from the remaining cedar. Mix 5 1\/2&#8243; and 3 1\/2&#8243; wide pieces as needed to fill the opening, then glue and staple them to the support strips.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cut 3 1\/2&#8243; wide cedar pieces to fit around the top edge.
